Just got back from Candolim on Sunday
Will post more when I have time. We had a fabulous time and are looking to go back next year.
We encountered a snake in the bathroom, a frog in the bathroom and a rat %26amp; an indian Basil Fawlty in a restaurant. Our holiday was an absolutely fantastic adventure.
Day 1 (Sunday 08-03-09)
Flight was on time from Gatwick but we were early into Dabolim and had to wait on the runway for 30 minutes. Ryan, our taxi driver picked us up from the airport and took us to our hotel. Checked in to Highland Beach hotel room no. 1806 and we both thought the room was a bit dark %26amp; gloomy. However the air-con %26amp; shower were really good %26amp; the rooms were pretty clean. After we had unpacked we headed for the beach.
We went to the first shack we came to for lunch which was Claudina’s.
Claudina’s Beach Shack :-
1 Veg. Biryani
1 Steak %26amp; Chips
3 large Kingfisher
Total Price Rs520 pretty good food 7 out of 10
Found ATM along Candolim main road. Used card, no problem.
Food looks really cheap from looking at the menus outside the bars %26amp; restaurants %26amp; large Kingfisher beer is priced from 70 to 80 rupees.
Went back to hotel and we had a nap for an hour or so. Stayed in the hotel for dinner, which I now know was a mistake.
Highland Beach Hotel :-
1 Prawn Starter
2 Kingfish steaks
2 large Kingfisher
1 Coffee
1 Gin %26amp; Tonic
Total Price Rs 1115 not so good food %26amp; expensive 4 out of 10
Both tired from long flight, went to bed about 10 o’clock.
Back from Candolim day 1
Sounds good so far. Can%26#39;t wait to hear about Basil Fawlty!!
Back from Candolim day 1
Enjoyed reading about day 1 and look forward to hearing about the rest when you%26#39;ve got time. Not keen on the %26#39;wildlife%26#39; you encountered in your room and the restaurant though!!
Blimey emerald what an amazing memory you have! I came back last week and just remember a wonderful feeling of days melting into each other, never having to look at the prices and most probably too many Kings!!
Wow, Emerald, you%26#39;ve seen more Goan wildlife in one trip than I%26#39;ve done in ten! Haven%26#39;t seen any snakes, or rats, but I%26#39;ve seen a few frogs. I%26#39;ve also seen a mongoose, which was exciting!
As Lisapizza says, you certainly have a good memory for prices, unless of course you brought restaurant receipts home (like my OH did the first time we went, to show his pals in the pub how unbelievably cheap it was!)
Glad you enjoyed your holiday.
I kept a journal while I was there as I didnt want to foget what we did. And I did keep the receipts as I couldnt believe how cheap it was.
Glad I%26#39;m not the only saddo who keeps a journal on holiday :-) I first started doing it when I went Greek island hopping so I could keep a note of the studio names and prices where I%26#39;d stayed but do enjoy looking back on it after the holiday and the price info is useful to first timers.
