am going to the north 4th - 19th April. i have noticed that elections may be on and read that alcohol may be banned. can anyone give me some info for the time i will be there. the OH won%26#39;t be too pleased if he cant have a beer at night.
elections
i would think you,d be ok as don,t think applies to tourist areas,as they even serve alcohol at ramadam
elections
Elections mean dry days and as before I%26#39;m sure it will apply to the tourist resorts! I%26#39;ve been there during these times %26#39;dry day%26#39; but not to say you wont get any beer. I mean this is India after all ;-)
Oh FYI the Muslim population in Goa is very small (approx. 6%) and so the state doesn%26#39;t really go dry during Ramadan.
Election time and dry days are the norm India wide but like I said I%26#39;m sure you%26#39;ll find a drink but it will not be as open as outside the dry days.
Of course getting caught drinking by police means money money LOL
I THINK the date for Goa is 23rd April 2009!
If you%26#39;re there already before the dry days start, you can stock up at the local offy. There is always somewhere you can get %26#39;tea%26#39; served.
They got really strict with dry days this season and the bottle shops closed at 5pm the day before the dry days started. It is the first time I have seen so many of the Calangute bars closed, no serving in tea-pots this time only at the beach shacks.
There was a big problem at one Calangute Hotel (fully inclusive guests) when they refused to serve them any alcohol when they had just arrived on dry day, there was almost a mutiny as the room fridges had also been emptied.
So if you are arriving on April 22nd (before 5pm) be sure to stock up if you want a drink.
elections start 21st april no booze then
I too have experienced dry days in Goa ha ha ha but dont worry someone will serve ';pot of tea'; or an ';extra large lemonade'; if you catch my drift
