Normal Cost of a Driver for 10 days in Rajasthan

I am planning on travelling in Rajasthan in December with a friend.

Our planned itinerary is to spend 10 days travelling from Delhi, Agra, Bharatpur, Sawai Madhopur, Chittaurgarh, Udaipur, Jaisalmer, Jodpur, Jaipur, Delhi.

We have been quoted an approximate cost of INR 32,000 for the trip. I was just wondering if this was a reasonable price. I have found some other advice on the forums but what with the changes in exchange rate it is a bit hard to tell.

If this is not reasonable I was wondering if anyone could recommend a driver or a company that I could contact for a new quote.

usually you can hire taxis for long trips from delhi or jaipur and the charges for these trips are fixed depending on the car size.

drivers come with the car and a small car will charge you 5rs per km so u can calculate the kms you travel in a day. the driver will charge u rs 150/ for one day. so if u decide to take a big 8 seater car then you pay rs 8/ per km.

delhi to jaipur is roughly 260 km and multiply by 5 gives you rs 1300/ . this way you can calculate for the complete journey.

hotels and homestays in all budgets u can book from the www.hostelworld.com website which gives you a good bouquet of hotels to choose from. once you have your rooms booked then its no problem and you can hire your own cab. for more details you can pm me.

My partner and I have just returned from a 12-day trip around Rajasthan, the cost was INR 28,500 for the car and driver. I can highly recommend the company we used which is operated by %26#39;Bunty%26#39; Satvinder Singh who can be contacted by email at indiaprivatedriver@gmail.com. His website is www.indiaprivatedriver.com. We had Amit (Bunty%26#39;s brother) as our driver and he was very good, safe and reliable as well as being excellent company. I felt very safe with Amit and we had no problems at all. Both Bunty and Amit were a pleasure to deal with, so much so that we%26#39;re already thinking about planning our next trip to India.

I had got quotes from a few drivers when planning our trip and although Bunty was not the cheapest I think he does provide a quality service so is definitely worth it.

Toyot Innovas are around Rs 12 per km for min 250 km per day. Road taxes, inter state taxes, tolls, parking, driver meal allowance %26amp; service tax extra. I would say if the price is for Toyota Innova, it is OK

I would say it bit expensive, you go through forum you will find many other options, hopefully helpful to you.

I have reccomended few other times (kalpvrikshtravels@yahoo.com) but forum members think it a spam, this agency is in New Delhi %26amp; I have been doing my arrangment through them since 7 to 8 yrs.

You can take quote from few others %26amp; may be you find something inexpensive %26amp; reasonable.

We travelled around Rajasthan in February, for 10 days, from Delhi to Agra, Jaipur, Sawai Madhopur, Pushkar, Udaipur then back to Jaipur.

It cost us INR 14500, after some vigorous haggling! Your trip seems to cover a greater distance, and it%26#39;s unclear what sort of car your quote includes but I%26#39;m pretty sure you can do a lot better than that price.

I recommend you contact Dara Singh, our lovely Rajasthani driver/guide who made our trip absolutely hassle-free. He was professional, courteous and very pleasant company.

(I would also advise that you drop one or two of your destinations, so that you get more time in some of those places ... you will feel quite rushed on the itinerary you mentioned)

He is a good, kind and reliable and honest and offered us a good price with good car and driver. The driver, Dara Singh%26#39;s brother, Mr. Jali Singh, served us very well. He drives safe and let us enjoy comfortably on his car. He%26#39;s always think positive for his client and advise what is good for us. Also he is very humorous and says many funny jokes and we%26#39;re never bore on jouney. First of all is honesty and he is a man you can trust.

We took our trip with Dara singh from end Dec 08 to early 2009, and had the worse experience of our life. He is greedy, scheming, his own boss (while driving his customers around), rude, manipulative and more.

We were suppose to have him take us from Delhi, Agra, Jaipur, Puskhar, and Udaipur and back but we end up booking a flight from Udaipur to Delhi as we can no longer tolerate his disgusting attitude.

My trip is completely ruined by this driver who is only interested in trying to fleece his customer. He is forever trying to get us to stay at hotels he recommend although we told him we had made all the arrangements already; eat at restaurants he dictate when we want a simple place (and he turns sarcastic claiming we could not afford); and drove us to change currency at this weird warehouse that has only a small table. We had to insist he sent us to a proper bank. He refused to drive us to the local bazaar and wanted to drive us to factory outlets instead. The whole trip is a continuous battle of what he likes to do. Not only was it draining, we were utterly disgusted with the way he is behaving.

Lunch is always at 3pm + because that%26#39;s when he like to stop (when he is hungry). We learn to carry lots of snacks to munch in the car. When requested to drive slightly faster on highway, he claims it is dangerous. You should have seen the way he talked on his mobile non-stop, once even trying to open his notebook while giving a telephone number to his caller! Look! the guy talked about safety. And we got a fright of our life when he suddenly shouted into his mobile when he got mad; one day. Because he is always on his mobile, it rings non -stop and text messages were sent continously.

There is so much negative things to say about our driver that it might take ages to write this post regards our experience.

The last straw was on the second last day of our trip. At Udaipur, we want to visit a Fort 84Km away. 45mins into the journey, he said, ';TOday is extra, i am not saying you have to pay me. This is just a reminder to tell you this is not included in the trip'; we were completely baffled, our price includes everything. At this time,we really had had enough of his nonsense. we asked to be driven back to the hotel since we do not need any extra services and has lost our mood for sight seeing. He refused and went on driving; even after we told him several times to turn back. So we spent one whole day from 9am to 3pm+ and not getting off the car; and finally arriving at the hotel.

We paid him that same evening and resort to paying for a cab to take us to the airport instead of him.

For those who are traveling in Rajasthan, there is really no need for a driver. As long as you plan your connections well, you can opt for a tuk tuk , very cheap, a local cab is good too. All places once reached is easily accessible on foot. Cabs are everywhere, outside waiting.

We wish we could turn back the clock and do our trip differently. It is very hard to brain washed ourselves to say India is not too bad, it is just our ill luck regards this Dara Singh!!

You are very patient with him, would have big argument much earlier. I think he builied you and probably most of his clients are not confrontational.

I used Rajasthan 4 wheel drive - not a bad experience, our assigned driver (they have 14 vehicles) was cooperative and certainly try his way subtly to stay in his hotels/shops. You have to be insistent dealing with them. I felt life is a struggle for most Indian people in one way or another.

We kept his tips till the very end (he suggested so at the beginning), so he did not try to be too funny and his boss can monitor the car movement via GPS

Funnily Im reading this post sitting off Orchard Road and I really appreciate that Singaporeans are different in their expectation. If service providers in India have to meet their expectations, they have to change their ways.
