We are traveling from Agra to Udaipur in a couple of weeks - is the train the best option?
We are looking for a mid-price hotel in Udaipur; not as expensive as Udaivilas or Lake Palace but nicer than a budget hotel.
Any suggestions?
thanks!
Udaipur accomodations/train
You don%26#39;t have a lot of train options, but there is one nice one, from Agra Fort, which leaves daily at 1820 (a little earlier from Agra Cantt) and arrives in Udaipur the following morning at 0610. The AC sleeping berths (you can choose first, second, or third air-con, and they%26#39;re all good) mean that you save on a night%26#39;s accommodation, and you won%26#39;t miss any sightseeing time.
There is also a day train -- no 2315 -- but it operates only on one or two days a week... and one of them is Friday, when you probably wouldn%26#39;t be in Agra anyway, as the Taj is closed.
Can%26#39;t help with your hotel... we always choose budget!

Try Amet Haveli. They charge Rs.3500 per room for 2.
Here%26#39;s the link:
http://amethaveliudaipur.com/
The website doesn%26#39;t work sometimes saying ';Bandwidth limit exceeded';, but try after a few hours and it should work.
That%26#39;s where i%26#39;m going to stay when i visit in March. The representative I talked to over the phone was knowledgeable and friendly.
I%26#39;m still looking for a reliable travel agent/company whom I can rent a taxi car for a day from though. The ones I have contacting are quoting around Rs.3500/day - way too much.
Train is your only option..too long a distance to drive. Try Jagat Niwas - www.jagatniwaspalace.com, Karohi Haveli - www.karohihaveli.com. Do read what others have to say about Amet Haveli on this forum.
try trident or the new radisson hotel
very good option the Jaiwana Haveli, a family-run middle class hotel with charming rooms and a great roof top restaurant.
Just returned from India! Stayed at the Lalit Laxmi Villas Palace in udaipur. They were offering a special winter package that was reasonably priced. Hotel is lovely! Have fun!
As a matter of interest would anyone know if it is possible to rent an apartment or rooms in someone%26#39;s house for about 3 weeks in Udaipur. Looking at ways to keep the cost down. 拢 weeks in a Hotel can work out quite expensive.
Cheers, Pete

Arya Niwas in Jaipur does weekly %26amp; long term rentals at their sister property Tara Niwas. Its used by a lot of corporates who have long staying staff - check www.aryaniwas.com
In Udaipur, try negotiating with Mandiram Palace which is a homestay opposite the Lake Pichola Hotel and quite well located - mandiram.palace@gmail.com. Ive stayed there and its a nice place

Npai,
I looked at the website of the Mandiram. For tarrif they quoted two prices for each room ie a EP and CP rate-- any idea what that refers to?
Also did you mange to see or could comment on what the %26#39;standard rooms%26#39; are like etc.
regards, Pete
