Cooking classes

Being a very proficient cook - one who regularly cooks curry dishes too - I would like to find cooking lessons for me and my husband while on our tour of Rajasthan... I will have opportunities to make time for this in Jaipur, Jaisalmer and Udaipur. Can anyone recommend any wonderful places to do this? (I was referred to a Mrs. Candy Singh in Jaipur who teaches out of her guesthouse near Jaipur but the reviews all indicate that it was more about watching her cook and stirring the pot now and then!) I have also heard of The Spice Box in Udaipur.Any great tips?

Cooking classes

I had an email from someone who did a cookery course in Udaipur. It was at the Spice Box that you mentioned. Apparently you can do 3-4 hurs in the morning then eat what you have made for lunch or do the evening stint for dinner.

The cost a few weeks ago was 700rupees. Not sure if they %26#39;cater%26#39; for different levels and abilities etc.

They do have a website. Google spicebox, udaipur and all will be revealed.

I f you do manage to go and do a course I would be most interested to know how you got on as my wife and I may go next year and spend a bout 3 to 4 weeks in Udaipur to immerse ourselves there , so to speak.

We will probably finish up doing an art course as well. Apparently that is popular in udaipur for about 400 rupees for 3 hours tuition etc.

all the best,

Cooking classes

My son has been in Udaipur for the past week or so. He took a cooking class at the Spice Box and said that it was fun but not nearly as involved as the classes he had taken in Thailand where he spent 5 days learning how to cook Thai food! (Not sure what that means but he did have fun!)

He also, on my recommendation, took a lesson in miniature painting and he quite enjoyed that as well...

There seem to be a lot of interesting things you can do in Udaipur and I%26#39;m sure you and your wife will have a lovely time there!

Thanks for that.

I, too, was hoping that the cookery course would actually be a %26#39;course%26#39; of a number of classes etc.

I do actually make a fairly mean curry myself but they never ever turn out the same. I tend to experiment a bit too much and probably put too much spice in etc. As long as I can learn to get the basic masala right then I might have achieved something from their cookery class at the spicebox.

I guess they get so many tourists wanting to do it and generally they only stay a couple of days or so.

Anyway, I may be able to find a local family who may want to help out.

Who knows.
