Hi
I thought I would give a neutral blog about applying for a 1-year Indian travel visa.
I have just made the online payment, and am going to send off the form, photos, and SDE tomorrow to Birmingham. Here goes...
India visa birmingham
Hi
I applied for and got a 1yr VISA. It seems that if you have a few 6 month VISA%26#39;s (I had 14) then you stand a better chance. Or perhaps it just depends who deals with your application and thier mood!
Don%26#39;t bother applying for anything more unless you are of Indian Origin and can supply all the needed paperwork. I know a UK Indian man who had alwys had a 5yr VISA but this time they wanted his fathers birth certificate. He could not supply it so ended up with a 6 month VISA.
Let%26#39;s see how you get on.
Regards
Paul

I have just posted off my SDE (today is Friday morning), containing my application form, photos and my return SDE addressed to me. Remember to record the return SDE reference number BEFORE sealing the SDE for Birmingham!
Good luck African! Looking forward to your blog. I only needed a 6 month tourist, passport 8 years old with visas for every year and had no prob but it gets more of a hassle every time. :)
The Royal Mail have done half their job - my SDE has been received in Birmingham. As expected, the SDE arrived the (working) day after it was sent. Thanks for the messages everyone!
I have been following the progress of my passport since its arrival on Monday on the VFS website. Today the Status changed, it is now:
';Your application is under process effective 19-Mar-2009.Please bear in mind the minimum processing times before calling the visa center.';
Also in mind I will bear the price of calling the visa center.
Hi A.M.
I was worried about a visa application I made to Birmingham - my passport was delivered by recorded delivery on 9th March - but the status on ';track your passport'; didn%26#39;t acknowledge receipt until 17th! I was starting to get a little worried - However,it arrived last Thursday (sent to my mother%26#39;s address and not mine as requested and paid for!) but at least it got processed in time - Hope that your application all goes smoothly. Best, K
ps. Once it was despatched from Birmingham it said on line that I could track it using my Royal Mail receipt - impossible to do as I had paid the £7 odd to have them send it to me, and therefore they would have any paperwork etc.
It used to be relatively simple to get a visa...now it takes an age, and is much more expensive for a worse service - go figure!
Having said all that, Have a great time, it will be well worth it!
The Status on the VFS changed again today:
';Processed application has been handed over to Royal Mail on 23-Mar-2009. You can track the movement of your application envelope on the website www.royalmail.com using the Royal Mail reference number on your receipt.';
My passport should be back home tomorrow :0
Slight diversion to respond to kittilondon --
-- It is rather daft that VFS said you could follow the SDE on Royal Mail if it was a VFS envelope. You%26#39;d expect a company with a history in processing passports would have had that ';bug in the system'; sorted out long ago. It is not the only bug in their system either... more later!
tell me about it! Try being a ';Miss'; (having never changed my name on my passport to my married name) and now being divorced - I filled in the form online, but I was sent back to the beginning because ';Marital status and title are incompatible';! In the end I gave up, and ticked ';unmarried'; instead...K
I received my SDE yesterday 10 a.m...
... I have been granted a 6 month travel visa. I must admit this is what I was expecting. With my passport I received a little handwritten note stating ';You are not eligible for one year Travel Visa. So have done refund for the remaining';
i.e. I have been refunded the 20 pounds (50 - 30) I paid in excess.
