how reliable are the buses

Hi, the buses are very reliable, fast and fun!

There are designated stops along the routes, although most of these are not usually marked, just look out for people stood in a huddle looking like they are waiting for something!

Most of the buses however, will take pity on tourists and will pick up if you flag them down.

It%26#39;s fun watching the buses race each other and with the suspension, or lack of, you get on some of them it%26#39;s just like a day trip to Blackpool Pleasure Beach!!

They always seems to lean as well.

Rough prices are:

calangute to candolim rs.5

calangute to mapusa rs.8

calangute to panji rs.12

how reliable are the buses

We used the buses a lot this year, very reliable. And what an experience.

Candolim to Calangute is either 4 or 5 Rups.

We never got change out of 10rups for two of us.

Think Mapusa was about 8 rups from Candolim. We were very lucky got the back seats by the door.

Panjim, cant be much going on the fares above.

There are designated places that they do stop, not too sure about flagging one down.

Hi stonk, yes the buses are quite reliable and you can just flag them down, just a word of warning, when getting on or off do it as quick as possible coz the driver doesn%26#39;t wait. That said its good fun on them, we did Calangute-Mapusa, and Calangute-Panjim as well as regular Baga-Calangute and the prices are correct.

And for anyone who%26#39;s in the south - it%26#39;s 22 rupees on the Margao/Panjim route.

yikeeeees you call these buses fun - they are my idea of a nightmare.

Honestly I don%26#39;t know how anybody dare ride on them if they were anywhere else they would be condemned.

My heart was in my mouth when I went on one a few weeks ago and that was only from Candolim to Calangute, was I glad to get off.

I am not the worlds best traveller on anything but those buses are scary.

I find it best not to sit in the front. If I%26#39;m going to die, I%26#39;d rather not see it coming.

lol @ Lgg

LGG - they must be posh buses down South if you can get a seat, if you get on here after Calangute Market you just get pushed to the back, hold on for dear life and hope he don%26#39;t brake too hard or it really is like a Blackpool ride.

Ride the buses in Mumbai, so much traffic there they can%26#39;t go fast.

thestonk23 - did you get your Mumbai trip sorted?

Depends where you get on as to if there%26#39;s a seat or not in the south. I had no problem going from Cavelossim to Margao but then I did get on at the first stop! Must admit they do really cram them in and it%26#39;s certainly an experience but hope to go from Margao to Panjim when we go back - at about 30p it%26#39;s certainly a bargain! LGG how long does it take (roughly) to get from Margao to Panjim by bus?

Dunno about any prices, but does anyone know the times they stop running at night? Thinking of doing sunset cruise in Panjim then going for a meal, before returning to Candolim. I know we get off at the free ferry crossing when we get there, but don%26#39;t know if this runs at night either, for the return journey. If not, is it easier to get on the bus in Panjim?
