Goa or Cuba? Help!

My Partner and I are looking to go to either Goa or Cuba next April.

We want a lovely beach with some cultural sites to visit, we are totally torn between the two places, has anyone been to both? Which did you prefer?

Thanks

Goa or Cuba? Help!

Have you done any research on these 2 destinations? It%26#39;s just that I can%26#39;t really understand why you say you%26#39;re ';totally torn'; between the 2 places.

Personally I think Cuba %26amp; Goa are chalk and cheese as holiday destinations.

I certainly wouldn%26#39;t visit Goa for cultural sites - I%26#39;m assuming you%26#39;re talking ANCIENT cultural sites.

The nearest you%26#39;ll get is Hampi which is a 10 hour train journey away - not even in the state of Goa.

It%26#39;s almost 15 years since we visited Cuba but I don%26#39;t recollect much culture - maybe some old buildings in Havana.

Cuba is a large island, what resort are you considering?

I notice someone has recommended Calangute to you in Goa - I don%26#39;t think you%26#39;ll find anywhere like that in Cuba.

For what it%26#39;s worth, Cuba was the place we%26#39;ve least liked in all our holidays.

That may have been because we went to a very new resort (Guardalavaca) but there was no infrstructure at all. Nowhere to eat outside the hotels.

Of course it%26#39;s probably changed now.

If you mean ANCIENT culture, why not consider Sri Lanka or Mexico?

They are (to me) also chalk %26amp; cheese but do have ancient sites.

Goa or Cuba? Help!

i%26#39;ve done both, but i find it difficult to say which is best.

they have different things that i like.

Goa has nice beach%26#39;s, sea can be quite rough at times, and lots of cultural sites to go to. also has good cheap food at the many good restraunts and beach shacks.

you need to be prepared to see a fair bit of poverty in Goa too.

recommend NOT going all inclusive.

Cuba is totally different... the beaches are outstanding!!! lovely soft powdery sand. the main reason i like it there though, is the snorkling. fantastic!!! in gaurdelavaca theres a coral reef a short distance out from the beach with loads of brightly coloured fish around it, beautiful.

Found the food in Cuba to be quite bland, although over the three times i%26#39;ve been there, it seemed to gradually improved, so whats it like now, don%26#39;t know, haven%26#39;t been for three years.

the places i%26#39;ve been theres not many restraunts, so you mostly need to depend on the hotel for food.

there are sites of interest, mostly old colonial buildings. and stuff to do with fidel castro,s revolution.

there is poverty in Cuba, but its not so ';in your face';.

Recommend YES to all inclusive.

Still can%26#39;t say what i prefer.

Been to Cuba 3 times.

Been to Goa 8 times, but that has something to do with other half%26#39;s desires.

Hope this helps, BOB

Cuba %26amp; Goa are both very different the main thing being the hotels and the food., but they are both beautiful places, if you want better standard of hotels then cuba, if you want basic hotels and better zfood then Goa. I myself prefer Goa but I also loved Cuba for different reasons

The choice is yours

we have been to cuba 3 times (different areas) goa 1 returning again this year you can not compare the two totally different both great places to go you wont be disappointed. if you choose cuba try to avoid hurricaine season june-nov( beg) %26amp; we found guadluvaca ( sorry cant spell) cuba too quite, good beach but .nothing else there no shops nothing Havana is fantastic %26amp; goa we prefer north like the buzz?atmostphere although beaches better in south you can easily visit both. Goa is cheaper but remember visas %26amp; malaria tabs on top

THAT BRINGS SOMETHING TO MIND!!!!

there%26#39;s NO malaria in Cuba, so so no precations required.

BOB

We have also been to Cuba as well as Goa several times. As everyone has already said, they are totally different. If I was going back to Cuba I%26#39;d spend more time in Havana - you need a few days there to see everything, although we did try to cram it all in a day and a half.

We stayed in Varadero - beaches are absolutely gorgeous as you can imagine, but outside the hotel there was nothing to do and nowhere to go. Food at hotel was outstanding, but there wasn%26#39;t much to spend your money on, as most hotels are all inclusive.

We%26#39;ve been to Cuba once and Goa 10 times - this is possibly to do with the fact that we like winter holidays and Cuba%26#39;s hurricaine season is at that time. We are thinking of going to Cuba end April if we can get a good deal.

If I HAD to choose, I%26#39;d plump for Goa - I think!

Hi DC

I would go to Cuba first (personally prefer Margarita to Cuba) because if you get bitten by the Goa bug you will not want to go anywhere else

Never been to Cuba, but totally hooked on Cuban music, so when I do go (and I will, soon), I want to go to Havana and Santiago de Cuba, but not fussed about staying in an AI resort. I think we%26#39;ll probably go independently and travel around.

hotels in goa are mostly clean basic. in cuba delux sea in cuba crystal clear great snorkling in goa sea rougher murky

We%26#39;ve been to both and would both say that Goa was our favourite by a long way. In Cuba we stayed in Havana and then drove across to the west to stay in a 5* all inclusive in a place called Trinidad. The drive was horrific , I wouldn%26#39;t recommend that at all - no road signs , hitchhikers trying to get into your car at every junction .The resort in Trinidad was good , but can%26#39;t decide if we were just so relieved to get out of the car that anywhere would have been good! In my opinion the food in Cuba was no where as good as Goa .

Also , we got well and truly ripped off in Havana by a conman who got us to buy milk for his baby - aye right - it left a bit of a bad taste so probably colours our view a bit .

Cuba is well worth seeing, but I do think that there is a lot to see in Goa too - Old Goa, old portuguese houses , forts , jungle .

Anyway , I%26#39;m glad I%26#39;ve been to Cuba, but wouldn%26#39;t rush back - on the other hand we are laways lookign for ways that we can fit in another wee trip to Goa .
