Hello,

Thanks for seeking suggestion on travelling to Amritsar.

If you are travelling by Car from New Delhi to Amritsar, it will take minimum of 8 hours and there is not much to see between these cities. Road - National Highway No.1 is a 4 lane highway. Road is good however not as good as you would find in European countries. You%26#39;ll have to transit through 3-4 high traffic density cities which may make your journey more tiresome and less anjoyable.

I would recommend you to board fast train called Shatabdi Express that runs both in Morning and Evening from both the cities.

Shatabdi Express will take between 5-6 hours.

Let me know if you need any more assistance.

* ENJOYABLE - sorry for typo

Thank you indiagoesglobal for the info there will be eight of us doing the trip it sounds like the train is the best option.slan(cheers)A la sature.

hi

i have to agree with indiagoesglobal...taking the train is the best...it departs at two times a 07.20 slot in the morning and 04:30 in the evening...if u dnt hv hotel reservations board the morning one tht gets you in amritsar by 01:30 in da noon...go around and find da place tht suits you the best...by road it will take minimum 10 hours or more and forbid you come across some fog then even more...the road is good (relative) uptill jallandhar...then to amritsar is a diff story...(bad)

oh and if train is the right thing for you book tickets 4-5 days in advance its a really popular train btwen asr-del...

Hi one more question is it cold in the mornings and at night at that time of the year november.

well it is cold but the intensity varies and well it comes and goes...average temp will be around 15 C/ 59 F...shouldnt be all that cold for you you have seen temp variances from 30 C to -10 C (Northern Ireland/ Ireland recorded extremes)...carry some warm clothing...oh and Amritsar tends to be colder than Delhi so don%26#39;t gauge the intensity by what you see/feel in Delhi...lets hope for bright sunny days during you trip....Aman

you can book your train tickets online and maybe escape the travel agent charges(though the international transaction chrgs by your bank will be there)...Also not sure bout it accepting international cards but its worth a shot...try the citibank gateway... www.irctc.co.in

Hi indian-jones this may sound like a silly question but my wife told me to ask what are the toilets like on the train, only a european would ask such a thing.thanks Irishman

ha! Good question! We%26#39;ve had train toilet discussions here before!
