Candolim Day 2

Day 2 (Monday 09-03-09)

We had breakfast at the hotel (cheese omelette, tea %26amp; toast)

Walked down to beach road where the shops are, got to the beach, dodged everybody offering sunbeds, taxis etc. %26amp; walked along towards the River Princes (still there), an Indian gentleman power walker in a pair of speedos rolled down to reveal his bum sped past us. Everybody was looking at him open mouthed, which is exactly what he wanted I think. Put me in mind of Julian Clarey.

Anyway after we had walked along the beach for a while my wife pointed to a beach shack, that was enough for the owner to come rushing over to us %26amp; be our new best friend. We had no choice but give in %26amp; visit his very very fine restaurant. We met a couple of British ex pats in there who arrived the same time as the river princess (9 years ago). However they are planning to leave soon %26amp; go to Thailand.

Still a bit wary of ordering any chicken dishes, will stick to veggie for now.

Ganesh Beach Shack :-

2 Sunbeds - 100

1 Watermelon juice - 60

4 large Kingfisher - 320

2 Kings - 80

2 Mineral water (1 ltr bottles) - 50

1 Onion Pakora - 70

1 Mushroom Hakkan noodles - 85

1 Cheese toastie -70

Total Price Rs 835 very good 7 out of 10

The beach is lovely, it is really hot but there is quite a strong breeze so it is bearable (just). Lots of hawkers on the beach selling jewellery, pashminas, shawls %26amp; parcels of peanuts wrapped in newspaper.

My wife hand a henna tattoo done on her hand from somebody working this stretch of beach, looks very good. Walked back about 5 o’clock %26amp; called in to Newtons to stock up on Odomos, Goodknight, a bottle of Gibleys Gin %26amp; 3 bottles of tonic water to have on our balcony.

Back in hotel room, showered %26amp; changed, a bit tired so decided to go to Foxeys as it is close to hotel.

Foxey’s Restaurant :-

4 large Kingfisher - 260

1 Veg curry - 150

1 Beef curry - 150

1 Sauteed mushrooms - 60

1 Garlic Naan bread - 40

1 Mineral water (1 ltr bottle) - 20

Total Price Rs 615 - pretty good 6 out of 10

I now know that we probably ordered the wrong food as this restaurant is renowned for steaks. Still really enjoyed it though.

Very tired, off to the balcony for Gin %26amp; Tonics then flop into bed.

Looking forward to tomorrow as we are going to Ashwem beach.

Candolim Day 2

Emerald, you forgot to tell us how much you spent in Newtons. lol

It%26#39;s a good idea to include the prices in your report, must be helpful for any newbies.

If your planning to do one report per day, by the time you have finished Meerkat will be home. :-(

Will there be another bottle of Gin on day 3 ???

Candolim Day 2

The guy showing half his bottom has been walking along the beach for as long as I can remember! Love the idea of you doing a report for each day - you must have taken lots of notes! Look forward to tomorrow to see how you enjoyed Ashwem, which is one of my favourite beaches.

Really enjoyed the day 2 report - though don%26#39;t think I%26#39;d have remembered all the prices after all those beers plus gin lol, but then I start feeling tipsy after a couple of drinks. Look forward to reading Day 3 :-)

Forgot to mention that a bottle of Gibleys Gin was about 140 rps, small schweppes tonics were 30 rps each. By the time the gin was finished it worked out that the tonic costs more than the gin!!! Some people say Newtons is a bit more expensive than other shops but it is so convenient.

I Really enjoyed the day 2 report too will look for day 3 I had the steak in foxeys it was just a OK one had better ones regards steve

emerald - really enjoying your holiday and the costing really helpful for me as not been b4. by the time u finished i will b almost heading for my plane - thankyou for this its brill!

Loving your day by day report! Cant wait for the next installment.
